Joanna Rajkowska's anti-monument "SORRY"

Category:

🔻 Joanna Rajkowska, an acclaimed Polish artist, will appear at the Art Haven with her latest project "SORRY." A concrete wall will stand at the entrance to the Art Haven. It will be a physical obstacle that cannot be crossed or climbed over.

🔺 Perception of the design itself, however, is not easy. Only from above can it be seen that the wall consists of letters forming the word SORRY, which is not visible from the perspective of a passerby.

🔻 Joanna Rajkowska's project is a response to recent events on a scale as national as well as global. It is a reaction to the refugee and economic crisis, the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border or the overexploitation of the natural environment.

🔺 "SORRY" is a kind of mirror: Rajkowska wants to put the viewer into an uncomfortable situation of embarrassment, when face to face with the truth and not really knowing what to do with it. She wants us, with our comfort, to finally feel bad and ask ourselves uncomfortable questions to which we don't know the answers.

🔻 Rajkowska's goal is neither to punish guilt, nor merely to pronounce the truth. The artist wants to reverse the roles of victim and perpetrator: we are not (only) victims of all disasters - we are first of all their perpetrators.
