Concordia_Talks Wrocław. Meeting with Karolina Korwin-Piotrowska

Category:

We invite you to the next meeting of the Concordia_Talks series.

This time our Guest will be Karolina Korwin - Piotrowska, and we will talk about her latest book entitled "First Youth."

The talk will be moderated by Dr. Aleksandra Wronecka of SWPS University.

What did the media do to Britney Spears and Sinead O'Connor? What can we learn from Pamela Anderson or the "Grace and Frankie" series? How have unattainable beauty canons corrupted our society? Why don't we accept diversity? Is there any other life than the one in perpetual rush? Why do we need more films like Skolimowski's "IO"? These are just a few questions answered by Karolina Korwin-Piotrowska, who - analyzing the phenomena of pop culture and beyond - teaches us to be sensitive and contest rigid social frameworks.

First there was the podcast. Then the book. But what was really first? Read on.

"A movie, a smell, a book, a taste, a sound, an event, in other words, what stirs my emotions and stays in my head at the end of the day. What turns me on, interests me, pisses me off, scares me, but also fascinates me, keeps me up at night and fills my thoughts." - This is how one of Poland's most articulate and recognizable journalists announces her latest book.

"Two weeks after the ED story - in the midst of visiting more specialists, doing more tests, hearing that I have a chance at a nice life, with medication, but will be alive and fit - I came up with the title of the podcast. First Youth. Because it felt like life was just beginning."

This is a memoir of a defining moment in Karolina Korwin-Piotrowska's life. In her new, sometimes painfully personal book, Karolina leads us through her experiences, her most difficult moments, but also her beloved movies, TV series and books, without losing anything of her original style. Subjective, uncompromising, sometimes incorrigible, she dissects the domestic and global shoegaze, never forgetting the truest stars and their talent. Finally, she doesn't forget herself either.
