Han Kang is considered the most outstanding contemporary Korean writer. In December 2024, she was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature for her "intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life." Before that, she achieved worldwide fame with her controversial novel "The Vegetarian," which won the International Booker Prize in 2016.
Her novel "Greek Lessons" is the story of ordinary people who come together in a moment of personal anguish. She has completely stopped speaking. He faces the loss of his eyesight. Slowly these two discover a deep sense of unity - their inner worlds intersect in surprisingly beautiful ways as they move from darkness to light, from silence to breath and expression. This novel shows the importance of the closeness that forms between people in a world full of suffering - it affects the senses and reminds us why life is worth living.
